Tom Ponting becomes the second Swindon Town FC Sixth Form Foundation, player to join our Fall 2021 Men’s Soccer Programme

We are delighted to announce that seventeen year old Tom Ponting has become the second Swindon Town Sixth Form Foundation player to join Sporting Chance USA within the past week.

Tom who currently plays for the Swindon Town FC (English League Div 2) Sixth Form Foundation First X1 & Cirencester Town FC Development squad has been the leading goalscorer at every club at which he has played. He is an instinct finisher, in other words he does his work inside the 18 yard box and has the instinctive knack of knowing where the ball is likely to fall and getting into position before a defender can pick him up. Tom has excellent on the ball close control and has a high level of confidence in his own ability to beat a player. He also has the natural turn of pace, essential for a striker. Tom is comfortable playing either as a lone striker or in a two man attackStanding over 6ft tall, Tom is strong enough to play with his back to goal, holding up the ball whilst colleagues join him in the attack and is just as likely to assist, as he is to score goals.

Tom, who lives in Swindon, Wiltshire began playing soccer at the age of 6 joining his local junior club; Abbey Meads u9s. He then had spells at Swindon Reading ASC and Shrivenham Town u10s. Whilst playing at Shrivenham, Tom was selected to represent the Swindon Primary School Representative Squad and the Wiltshire u10s Representative Squad. As an u12 Tom joined Cirencester Town JPL and for a number of years played in an age group above his own age.As an u18s, Tom is still playing soccer for the Cirencester Town FC Development squad, as well as playing for Swindon Town FC Sixth Form Foundation First X1 at the Commonweal School, Swindon. During his time at Cirencester Town, Tom was regularly selected to represent Swindon Schoolboys u16s. It is also worth noting that Tom is keen to improve his own soccer coaching skills and he is already a fully qualified FA Level 1 Coach.

Academically Tom has a good set of GCSE qualifications and is now studying for his A-Level, Psychology & PE qualifications at The Commonweal School, Swindon. When he moves to a US College in Fall 2021, Tom is looking to study a sport related Major.
