Sporting Chance USA is delighted to welcome 17 year old Matthew Goldfinch to its Fall 2021. Mattie, as he prefers to be called is currently keeping goal for the Swindon Town Football in the Community program and for Shrivingham Town u18s & Reserves in the Hellenic League.
Standing 6’0″ tall, Mattie can command his box with authority, his positional play is exceptional, as is his footwork (he used to be an outfield player). He is also very agile and is a first rate shot stopper, as can be seen from his match & training videos. Mattie is also a confident communicator, which in itself replicates confidence in his fellow defenders. It is also worth pointing out that for such a young keeper, Mattie is extremely confident in dealing with crosses and dead ball situations.
Mattie, who lives in Swindon Wiltshire, began his soccer career at the age of 8 joining his local junior club Wanborough Wasps. He made the move between the posts at the age of 12. He then moved on to join the Shrivingham Town FC junior section, as well as the Swindon Town FC Football in the Community program. Whilst playing at Swindon Town, Mattie has taken part in three Youth World Cup tournaments. In Sweden in 2018 Gothia Cup the Swindon Town squad reached the last 8 of the A seed group, a remarkable achievement for a Football in the Community squad. Since then Mattie has continued to play for the Swindon Town FC FITC program at The Commonweal School in Swindon. He has also progressed onto playing for Shrivingham Town Reserves, which is good standard UK men’s soccer. He is also first choice keeper for the club’s development squad playing in the Hellenic League Div 2 West.
Academically Mattie has a good set of GCSE qualifications and is now beginning his final year of the CTEC in Sport qualification at The Commonweal School. When he moves to a US College in Fall 2021, Mattie is looking to study a sport related Major.
