We are delighted to announce the arrival of 17 year old Alex Shaw to our Fall 2021 Men’s Soccer programme.
Alex who currently plays for the Swindon Town FC (English League Div 2) Foundation Centre and for Shortwood FC (Men’s Senior), is an excellent ball winner both in the air and on the ground. Standing over 6′ 3″ tall, he is comfortable playing in either a back four, or back three (prefers right side). He has been coached very well throughout his junior career and his positional play and anticipation is evidence of this. Alex also has very good on the ball technique, and is a good passer of the ball, so he has no problem being asked to play out from the back. If however the ball needs clearing upfield and out of danger, he is not a player to take chances in and around his own penalty area. At the majority of clubs at which he has played soccer Alex has been made captain, having been recognised as a natural leader.
Seventeen year old Alex began playing soccer at the age of 7, joining his local junior club; Wotton Rovers FC u8s. He remained at Wotton right through to u14s before joining Cirencester Town FC , where he played until u18s, helping his club win numerous trophies. Whilst playing at Cirencester Town Alex was also captain of the Gloucestershire Schools representative squad from u16s to u18s and had trials with England Schools u18s. He also had extended trials at Cheltenham Town FC (English League Div 2) at u15s level. This season; 2019/2020, has seen Alex move on to join both Slimbridge u18s and Shortwood FC.
Academically Alex has a good set of GCSE qualifications and he is currently studying at The Commonweal School, Swindon for his CTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport. When he moves to a US College in Fall 2021, Alex is looking to study a sport related Major.
